On board the vessels, the Global Safety Day focused on the significance of the Stop Work Authority as the main pillar of Odfjell’s safety culture. The Stop Work Authority provides all Odfjell personnel with the right — and the responsibility — to intervene and stop any unsafe work.
The event was observed through tabletop discussions on critical operations on board, highlighting the utmost need to prioritize safety on crucial activities such as mooring and bunkering. Group exercises were conducted to make it easier for crewmembers to share their insights, and the discussions also covered daily life situations to ensure that safety always is top of mind, every day.

Everybody wants to come back home safe and healthy. Proper mindset, being proactive and innovative, having the right attitude and following the procedures are still the key – not only to be safe and secure, but also to execute our tasks effectively. This will result in a better service to the ship itself, to the company and to our customers.

On board Bow Riyad we celebrated the Odfjell Global Safety Day by forming teams to discuss various safety scenarios and gather ideas on how to improve onboard safety.
Safety is not only about doing what is safe. Safety is also about coming up with ideas to enhance safety, and sharing these ideas with the seafaring community. As seafarers, our job does not only entail following safety procedures. We are also responsible for coming up with initiatives that enrich our safety culture.
This year's Safety Day theme, "Excellence in execution," reminds us that safety is our responsibility to ourselves, and to others. We do not perform tasks just to merely finish them right away; rather, we do our jobs with quality effort and in a safe manner.

This year's Global Safety Day cultivated in me a culture of safety awareness that at times tend to be neglected when the ship's crew are too busy in the day-to-day operations. It also reminded me that safety is important not only in our company, but also in my family, who wants me to come home safe. This is why I always tell my self to do my tasks safely at all times, or not do them if safety is compromised.
