Odfjell recognized with 2020 and 2021 Amver Awards

The U.S. Coast Guard’s Amver Program is an example of international emergency and humanitarian cooperation, and the awards a way of recognizing shipowners, crew and operators for their commitment to safety; the men and women that operate the global fleet and assist people in distress at sea, anywhere in the world.

Embraced by the international merchant industry, the program has a global reach, and it is estimated that more than 2800 lives have been saved by Amver-participating ships since year 2000. ​​​​​​​

The award ceremony took place at the US Ambassador’s residence in Oslo during Nor-Shipping. Technical Managers Bernt Lie-Berland and Bård Lysen accepted the awards on behalf of Odfjell.

Through the years, Odfjell vessels have received a whopping 141 awards for our continuous engagement in this voluntary humanitarian program. Among them is Bow Capricorn, who rescued eight refugees outside of Cuba in February this year. To be eligible for the award, a vessel must have at least 128 days on the Amver plot in a calendar year. The 2020 and 2021 awards were for Bow Firda, Bow Sea, Bow Trajectory, Bow Tribute and Bow Triumph. Congratulations! 

The origin of the Amver have its roots in the Titanic disaster of 1912, and the Amver Awards Program was inaugurated in 1971.
