Turning decarbonization into action
While advancing the next wave of energy-efficiency initiatives across the fleet, Odfjell’s technology team has also been actively sharing insights on industry stages worldwide.
In recent months, VP Technology Erik Hjortland, Manager Projects Jan A. Opedal, and Manager Research & Development Veine Huth have presented Odfjell’s decarbonization strategy and results at leading forums, including the RINA Conference, DNB Ocean Industries Summit, Everllence, Lloyd’s Tanker Forum, the Mærsk McKinney Møller Center, Erfaringskonferansen, and the Wind Propulsion Conference.
The largest of these, the DNV Maritime & Energy Transition Summit, attracted 9,500 digital participants, underscoring the strong demand for scalable solutions to reduce shipping emissions.
Across all engagements, the message has been consistent and clear: act now with the technologies already available, and accelerate meaningful emission reductions not only within our own operations but across the industry.
Sustainability as strategy and governance
At the same time, our broader sustainability agenda has gained international recognition.
Chief Sustainability Officer Øistein Jensen has represented the company in high-level industry dialogues and media interviews, reinforcing that sustainability at Odfjell extends far beyond decarbonization.
In an interview with CSO Futures, Jensen described Odfjell’s approach as responsibility-driven; integrating climate ambition, human rights, compliance, and anti-corruption into overall corporate strategy and governance. Sustainability is not a standalone initiative, but something embedded in decision-making, risk management, and long-term value creation.
At the World Maritime Forum in Copenhagen, Jensen further emphasized the importance of realistic transition planning and moving forward with available solutions while maintaining strong governance, transparency, and integrity.
In a joint webinar with representatives from the Port of Seattle and the Port of Los Angeles, Jensen discussed how green corridors can accelerate maritime decarbonization. He highlighted Odfjell’s Brazil–Europe green corridor as a practical example of how tangible progress requires operational implementation, cross-value-chain partnerships, and a clearly defined long-term transition pathway. This week, he’s on stage at The Economist Sustainability Week in London.
The energy transition in shipping is already underway. By combining practical action, responsible governance, and open knowledge-sharing, Odfjell is not only reducing emissions within our own fleet but also contributing to raising standards and accelerating change across the industry.
