During the launch, our CEO and current President of NSA, Harald Fotland, highlighted Odfjell’s green corridor as a concrete example of how shipping can cut emissions in practice.
"We can improve efficiency significantly, but we cannot optimize our way to zero. To succeed, we must adopt greener fuels. More than 100 green corridor initiatives have been announced globally, yet few have moved beyond the starting line. We chose to act—even though it required us to take risks and adjust our ambitions along the way", Harald said.
"Our experience is clear: regulations such as EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime work, and the response from policymakers, industry players, port authorities, fuel producers and other stakeholders has been tremendous – and inspiring."
Our green corridor has helped increase awareness around the use of biofuels and mobilized industry partners, showing what's possible when operational measures are paired with the shift to greener fuels.
"We will continue the dialogue with the value chain to increase the share of biofuel, optimize port rotations and improve operational efficiency, and we are exploring opportunities to establish additional green corridors within our trades. If shipping is to meet climate targets, concrete projects must be scaled up. It is possible," Harald concluded.
