Odfjell joins dialogue with Norway's Foreign Minister on maritime cooperation

Representing Odfjell, VP Maritime Personnel Gunnar Moen participated in the meeting hosted by the Norwegian Training Center (NTC), headed by Svend Foyn Bruun.

The event brought together Norwegian government representatives, maritime organizations, and industry leaders to exchange perspectives on issues affecting the maritime sector and identify opportunities for closer cooperation between Norway and the Philippines.
 

The discussions focused on several priorities for the industry, including maritime education, workforce development, and the continued contribution of Filipino seafarers to global shipping.

As one of the world's leading chemical tanker operators, Odfjell recognizes the important role Filipino seafarers play in supporting safe and efficient operations across the global fleet. The company also continues to invest in developing maritime talent through training, cadetship programs, and long-term partnerships that help build a skilled and sustainable workforce.

As part of the dialogue, VP MPS Gunnar Moen highlighted the importance of continuing efforts to improve visa processes for Filipino seafarers and maritime professionals.

Efficient and predictable visa procedures play an important role in supporting timely crew changes, facilitating travel for training and business activities, and enabling closer collaboration between Odfjell's teams in the Philippines and Norway. These improvements would benefit not only the company's operations but also the many Filipino professionals who support Norway's maritime industry.
 

Minister Eide acknowledged the concerns raised and explained that visa policy falls under the responsibility of other Norwegian government authorities. While no specific commitments were made during the meeting, he assured participants that the feedback would be shared with the relevant authorities responsible for visa and Schengen matters for further consideration.

The meeting underscored the value of continued engagement between government and industry in addressing opportunities and challenges.
