Enhancing Efficiency at Sea: Odfjell Ship Management Adopts Digital Logbook System

Odfjell Ship Management sets sail towards a new era of efficiency and innovation as we embrace the digitalization of our fleet through the integration of Kongsberg Digital's K-fleet digital logbook system.

Historically, ships have relied on paper logbooks to document crucial information such as voyage details, operational activities, machinery performance, and safety incidents. However, the use of paper-based records poses several challenges, including the potential for errors, time-consuming manual data entry, limited accessibility, and difficulties in data analysis.

To optimize the efficiency of our crew and reduce administrative burdens, we have taken the first step towards our digital journey by installing Kongsberg Digital's advanced digital logbook system.

The digital logbook collects data from ship systems into central data storage. It enables easy recording of event-based data related to navigation, engine, oil record book, garbage handling, port calls and other operational activities defined by the logbooks being supplied.

“Accurate and efficient reporting is very important for us and our crew, and we strongly believe that digitalization is a necessary step towards improving safety, efficiency and sustainability in the maritime industry”

– Vidar Børve, Manager Electrical & Automation

Børve continues: “The traditional hand-written logbook has long been a vital tool for recording the vessel’s route, voyage, actions, and engine status. But it can be a time-consuming process. That’s why we’ve taken the step to modernize and optimize our operations by implementing Kongsberg Digital’s effective digital logbook and reporting system.”

All Electronics Logbooks meet the requirements of IMO, Marpol, SOLAS and several flag states for replacing the traditional paper logbooks.

The Electronic Logbooks include:

  • Deck logbook

  • Engine Logbook

  • Radio Logbook

  • Oil Record Book P1

  • Oil Record Book P1

  • Garbage logbook Part 1 & 2

  • Ballast logbook

  • Cargo logbook
