Historic delivery to Bow Explorer
Recognizing the challenges associated with UREA* supply in IBC* containers and acknowledging previous dissatisfaction with IBC handling during port stays, Marine Care has developed the "TIER III" UREA Barge. This innovative solution aligns seamlessly with Odfjell's dedication to discovering efficient and environmentally friendly alternatives in the chemical transportation industry, culminating in the first UREA Barge delivery to Odfjell's Bow Explorer.
Streamlining operations while benefiting the environment
Boasting a pump capacity of up to 50 m3/hour, the UREA Barge eliminates the need for IBC handling, streamlining operations, and delivering environmental benefits. The innovative design reduces bunkering time (80% reduction), while simultaneously saving 2,3 tonnes of plastic packing/waste and 8-10 tonnes CO2 emission per bunkering compared with traditional IBC supplies/handling and pumping.
Addressing challenges for a greener future
The UREA delivery to Odfjell's Bow Explorer marks a historic moment for both companies.
“As Marine Care leads the way with its innovative "TIER III", the collaboration with Odfjell underscores a shared commitment to pioneering solutions that enhance efficiency while prioritizing environmental responsibility. This development serves as a testament to the industry's ability to embrace positive change and pave the way for a greener, more sustainable future.”- VP Operations Arne Harkestad, Odfjell
*UREA also called carbamide is an organic compound with chemical formula CO(NH 2). Urea has important uses as a fertilizer and feed supplement, as well as a starting material for the manufacture of plastics and drugs.
*IBC stands for Intermediate Bulk Container, and it is typically a container made of plastic with straight edges protected by a steel cage and placed on a pallet made of wood, plastic, or steel. In general, an IBC tank is used to store liquids, powders, chemicals, and pastes.
