Bow Fortitude named and launched in Japan

Odfjell’s fleet renewal reached another milestone as the 25,000‑dwt chemical tanker Bow Fortitude was officially named and launched at the Fukuoka yard. The vessel is the latest in a series of advanced stainless‑steel vessels.

With 24 stainless‑steel tanks, optimized cargo flexibility and energy-efficiency solutions, Bow Fortitude is part of a significant expansion: ten new ships are scheduled to join the Odfjell fleet this year, further strengthening our global service offering.

A ceremony marking a 25‑year partnership

Odfjell’s collaboration with Fukuoka Shipyards spans 25 years and includes the building of 18 vessels, from the 12,500 dwt Bow De Silver in 2001 to the queen of the day, the 25,000 dwt Bow Fortitude.

“Shipbuilding is a complicated matter all the way from the drawing table through steel cutting, through construction and to the final outfitting and sea trials. There has to be quality in all elements of the production chain," CEO Harald Fotland said in his address.

“Your vessels are a true testimony to the famous tradition of shipbuilding in Japan. On specification and on time – all that we can ask for.”

Ready to join one of the world’s largest stainless‑steel fleets

Bow Fortitude joins a fleet that now counts 23 vessels in the 25–26,000‑dwt stainless‑steel segment — one of the largest globally.

“This is a concept and a vessel size that has proven to be very good, and it is today an integral part of the Odfjell fleet and our service offering to our extensive customer base. We have one of the largest fleets of vessels in this segment. The Japanese-built vessels are among the top performers in this category, and the reason why we come back for more,” Harald said.

Carrying a name that stands for courage, Bow Fortitude will most certainly deliver safe, efficient, and sustainable chemical transportation through both calm and storm for years to come.
