Service awards to six Odfjell seafarers

At the final award ceremony of the year, six seafarers were awarded for serving the company and the shipping industry for more than 25 years. A total of 37 seafarers have been honored with their long-service medals in 2022, a testament to the Odfjell crew’s retention and dedication.

From left: Knut Erik Fredriksen (VP Fleet Management), Stig Helge Larsen (Captain), Eva Storeide (Senior Crewing and Social Officer), Kjell Arne Hevrøy (Captain), Torger Trige (Global Head of Ship Management), Jose Marie Buagas (Chief Engineer), Svend Foyn-Bruun (VP Maritime Personnel), Vidar Grønås (Pumpman), Terje Lie (Chief Engineer) and Arne Johansen (Captain).

“This ceremony tells us that we all work for a company whose history exceeds our worklife. As our devoted and esteemed seafarers, you have carried on your skills and our culture to the next generation of seafarers for many years”, VP Maritime Personnel Svend Foyn-Bruun said in his speech to the awardees.

“Your loyalty to the company has been an intangible value that is so much appreciated. You are the ambassadors of the quality culture we have at Odfjell”.

Captain Arne Johansen

Arne Johansen started his career in Odfjell in February 1996 as 2nd Officer. He was promoted to Chief Officer in February 1998 and to Captain in 2006. Today he sails on Bow Chain and was awarded for over 25 years with the company.

He was promoted to Chief Officer in May 1996 and to Captain in 2005. Today he sails on Bow Firda. Stig Helge was awarded the Norwegian Shipowners’ Associations gold medal for at least 30 years of service, of those more than 15 years at Odfjell.

Chief Engineer Terje Lie

Terje Lie started as a traveling repairman for Kontinental Machin service in 1981, and worked for various companies before he started his Odfjell career as 3rd Engineer on board NCC Jouf in 1995. He was awarded by Odfjell for more than 25 years at the company, and by the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association for at least 30 years of service to the maritime industry.

Chief Engineer Jose Marie Buagas

In 1996, Jose Marie Buagas boarded Bow Mariner for the first time as Engine Cadet. He was promoted to 2nd Engineer in November 2011 and was assigned the position of Fleet Machinery Surveyor in 2013. He continued sailing with Seatrans as a ship mechanic before he came to Odfjell as a pumpman in 1994. He has since sailed in the same position on board a range of Odfjell’s ships. He was awarded by Odfjell for more than 25 years at the company, and by the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association for at least 30 years of service to the maritime industry.

“Loyalty is not something we can acquire, it must be deserved. For Odfjell, this is your reward to us, a reward that contains responsible care of Odjell’s values, a continuation of our culture, and not at least a competitive advantage”, Svend Foyn-Bruun said.

Foyn-Bruun’s celebratory words were echoed by Global Head of Ship Management Torger Trige and by Marine Manager Jan Ove Ødegård, who also highlighted the vital importance of the family at home and the extra contributions they make when the seafarers are away on board.
