Database Administrator

We are looking for a Database Administrator to join our growing team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of data analysis and reporting techniques, as well as the ability to communicate complex information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences. He/She shall adapt to technological changes and keep up to date with trends in database management, which apply to on-premises and cloud-based databases.

The Database Administrator at Odfjell shall adhere to and promote safety awareness and safe practices as a quality element of the department’s processes. The position shall follow relevant laws, company values and policies, and follow company governing documents. Deviations from standard rules and regulations, both external and internal, shall be discussed with and approved by managers up front.

 

Areas of responsibility

The position is responsible for database management both on-prem and in Azure cloud according to Odfjell SE data management strategy and principles.

  • Developing database structures and features according to organizational needs
  • Protecting data by developing data security and restoration policies, procedures, and controls
  • Monitoring system performance and identifying problems that arise.
  • Performing database maintenance, migration, and coordinating upgrades of hardware and software

 

Tasks

The Database Administrator:

  • Conducts diagnostic tests and evaluates performance metrics
  • Delivers according to procedures to ensure data integrity and quality
  • Suggests changes and improvements for database maintenance or protection
  • Responds to user-reported errors in a timely manner
  • Protects the database against threats or unauthorized access
  • Ensures that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of memory loss
  • Establishes and follows up monitoring metrics regarding usage and performance
  • Documents and keeps best practices for database management at Odfjell updated

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Three to five years of relevant experience, preferably from an international company
  • Knowledge and experience in the use of low code/Microsoft Power Platform is an advantage
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Ability to complete work tasks on time and within scope
  • Advanced knowledge in MS, SQL and Azure
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to travel internationally
